Palimpsest: Processed Drawings 5

These works are a product of repetitive photocopying. I used alot of the same techniques I used prior such as collaging and scanning but focused alot on the pages from the Japanese magazine because of the look of the text, as it’s quite easy to manipulate in a way that makes it visually appealing to me. The different boldness and size of the lettering in the pages also interested me and added more depth to whatever works they were in.

I also started to draw on top of images of people, heavily inspired by the works of Ellen Gallagher and her works using old African American magazines

I enjoyed this process alot because of the gel pens I used, the colours of them contrasting the B&W paper, but mostly the effect it had against matte paper and images because of the glitter in the pens.

All of the images layered and collaged in these works are from the magazine and it was helpful to gather so many different types of pictures of art from different styles (naked sculptures and manga drawings) and mediums and bring them together to create an entirely new work.
