Week 3-4 Artist

People that I found interesting or helped be with ideas

Marie Lund

Marie Lund’s photography and paintings are inspired by her surroundings, as well as the influence of the seasons and human interaction on the landscape. She lives on the outskirts of Murramarrang National Park, a tranquil setting teeming with kangaroos, birds, and ancient trees. This allows her to watch the changes in nature as the seasons change, as well as the effects of weather on nature.

I used the idea of putting clothing into plaster to get the outline or have it stuck in the plaster. For my final pieces I had an outline of a pocket and inside of it. I did this to show they different forms of clothing. I liked to use plaster to try and fossilised clothing or use fabric to get the outline of it.

Rachel Whiteread

Dame Rachel Whiteread (born 20 April 1963) is an English sculptor who mostly works with castings. In 1993, she became the first woman to receive the Turner Prize. By filling a home with concrete and removing the mould, a copy of the interior of a condemned London property was produced. Her works, such as castings of the region underneath chairs, explore the negative space around or confined by things, implying how human interaction gets ingrained in our surroundings.

Jose Dávila

Jose Dávila muses on the failure of utopian, modernist utopias, drawing on his architectural expertise. From his precariously balanced sculptural compositions to his “cutout” series, in which he removes the focal point of classic works of art, producing an absence that bestows three-dimensionality on the resulting pieces, his oeuvre is marked by a broad, medium-crossing output. Mexican artist Jose Dávila mines art history using simple materials like stone and cardboard to produce some of the most relevant pieces today.
