I found this task increasingly more challenging than my week one tasks. I used various materials such as, books, lights, string, clothing rack, glass head, paper clips, battery and other household objects. I created 5 sculptures assembled uniquely to create work I will later develop.
Sculpture 1
Sculpture 2
Before
After
By using books as my main material and random household items such as candles, boxes, containers etc I was able to assemble a tall structure relying on balance.
Sculpture 3
Moving to a larger scale, I placed my attention on an old clothing rack. I quickly noticed the poles were adjustable. I added a skateboard providing a parallel shelf, as well as a door hanger and string to connect. I really love how every connection produced a straight line and the hooks and ‘S’ provide additional shape.
Sculpture 4
Using my brothers chairs I began assembling them into positions as seen in the first two images. I noticed that depending on the position, the chairs were in, the volume inside the chairs began to grow. By adding a book to secure the first chair I was able to experiment further. I swapped the first book out multiple times in order to find a fitting height and thickness. I think this sculpture was simple yet creative.
Sculpture 4
Glass head. Car battery, Fairy lights. I collected these items located in random corners of the house. The thought of the car battery powering a human interested me. Working with this idea I stacked the head stuffed with lights on-top of the battery. I wasn’t satisfied fully leading me to assemble the fairy lights to the positive and negative points of the battery. I then brought the light to the outside of the head as-well as the clamps from my original images. I think the effect the light brings is a nice addition although, at times it made it difficult for me to capture the features of the face.

aweeesome! the negative space in the first 3 sculptures are great, too! my favourite is the paper clip unicorn spider..
Sooo cool! So many different materials and ways you are thinking about assembling! I really like the dainty/ cuteness of the paper clips turning into a web and your use of balancing and creating balance with objects. Your last head that takes the cake, so cool I really like that you are using batteries and hooking everything together and because of that being able to play with light. Super cool, nice one 🙂
