Verisimilitude: Critical

Apply/Expand another idea to a beforehand figure and explain the importance of this piece.

I have chosen to assemble another rock structure but to improve its space and number. Before I did so, I researched an artist by the name of Andy Goldsworthy. A British artist who uses natural materials to create his sculptures. Goldsworthy used Wood, Rocks, Leaves, and Ice. I did not have any Ice Cubes so I had to resort to my logs, pinecone, and Rocks. Goldsworthy made many works when he used leaves and ice blocks to shape a circle.

Since I had 3 different shaped logs, I decided to use different types of levels to construct my stack. I had so many different shaped rocks which will make my work look more natural.

The way I see it, I am just being like a man back in the Ice Age. Yes, they used rocks as tools and weapons and defense, but I just think that even back then we still use the materials nowadays. The rock stack is called “Cairns” which was used as ancient wayfinding references and spiritual markers. Doing this in my garden makes me connect to Aotearoa and Papatūānuku (Earth Mother) which is more than a sculpture, it is a sculpture that means so much more.
