Pinhole Photography 101

Simple in design, yet complicated in practice. My first experience with pinhole photography has been exciting and intriguing. On Tuesday I shot 3 images. Different angles of the same bikes parked on campus. I chose this subject as I thought the detail of layered tyres would show an interesting perspective and contrast. The light was bright but overcast. I did an 8 minute exposure for the first shot. A little overexposed, so I reduced it to 7 minutes for the second two images. Overall, happy with how they turned out and excited to keep exploring this medium.

On Thursday (11/03/21), we had self-directed time in the dark room. I used this session to create 4 images based on self reflection. The weather changed for each shot so consistency with exposure times was temperamental but I did learn a lot.

Shot 1, 7 minute exposure in overcast, dark light. Inverted to show true image.
Shot 4, 4 minute exposure in very bright light. Inverted to show true image.
Inverted video of the 4 images from 11/03/2021
Final 4 shots.

Looking forward to next week and exploring my ideas within pinhole photography more. Reflection is a theme I would like to move forward with. Playing around with puddles in the foreground and an object in the background, creating reflections. Exploring self-portraiture and movement within single exposures.
