Sculpture – Site Intervention (2)

I really didn’t like what I did the first time with this task. I’m not an outdoorsy person in the slightest. Coming up with ideas for this exercise was difficult for me, I had no idea where to begin. I saw my neighbours kids using chalk on the drive way and took inspiration from that. There is a sense of freedom when you know that something is ephemeral. You don’t need to be pedantic with making something ‘perfect’ as it won’t last.

The context of these drawing means a lot. Out of context these would be considered painting. But in this context of being on a garden wall the focus shift from the image itself to the person who created it. Before it was just a garden wall that could be in any garden. But now it’s a personalised unique object. Confining the image within the bricks creates a frame for the drawing to sit in. This helps it feel like it belongs.
