Patterned line making

the Black painting was inspired a Paua shell design but I chose to explore this with other ways/looks to make a work of art. I didnt leave it to being all the same all the line became different. And the broght spots were lighter or not seen as much

Paint/Print Brief

I genuinely struggled with this brief missing so much time in the first semester not getting much done then the last few weeks of trying to get these done Im not the happiest with how these paintings came out. I could have done better and I know that but Im not going to beat myself up about it what has done has done. I also struggled with the making marks process as its was out of my way of painting everytime id do something I wouldnt like it and I just wished I could ignore it and move on but every time i wanted to just paint over it and start again. I feel like next year is going to be a lot easier for me when it comes to the painting as I will have a little bit more freedom than this year.

PHOTOGRAPHY BRIEF Final Installs

I genuinely loved this brief even with not being able to full force jump into it. I used to do pin hole photography back in high school where I got just about all of my photographs the perfect exposure this time I got them great I only got 1 that was to over exposed but i still liked it. If I were to do that again I would like to explore different areas include people and bring the things I love into it or bring in the medical things that nature brings in with healing the human body. My final photography installment is in the photos and I also did a collage wall which was very fun to do by figuring out where to place everything. I used the photo copier to make some prints too and I added real life dead plants into my installment which I really liked. This brief would have been this easy without the help of my class mates doing the photography brief giving me ideas, talking to me, and helping me carry things/developing my pinholes for me.

Cathedral Cove Paint/Print

I have alway had a thing for drawing and painting landscapes especially cathedral cove the shape, the different colours of the cave depending on the weather is very interesting the looking through the cave and seeing other images or seeing rocks and mountains in the distance. I started this print in the 3d lab using print ink and a roller I put the paper onto the ink and just drew the image which came out a bit pixally and some parts are darker black than others but Im happy with it.

The second painting I made by making different marks and using different paint colours I made it a darker theme to show that its a wet snd cloudy day you can see the sky through the cave looking grey

I did a acrylic water based paint which i didnt like much by its self I was genuinely thinking about not puting it up but when I put it up together it came together and looked like it fit in there and i just kept it there

the last painting is definitely my favourite it is the most realisim painting but with random paint strokes done in it too

Overall these painting were definitely my favourite out of all the art i have produced this brief painting wise i feel like its the best Ive shown my painting skills.

Inspiration from Artists PT1

Darren Glass

Darren Glass’s photographs end up as a blend of rigorously controlled testing and deliberate incorporations of accident. Since 1990 he has constructed a wide array of cameras, from his camera Frisbees which expose photographic film while literally being flung through the air to static sculptural objects built to capture multiple viewpoints of stream banks. His lenseless imaging devices provide us with an unusually rudimentary form of photography. He states, “like early photographers who transported giant glass negatives in wagon-darkrooms in pursuit of obtaining extreme resolution, I have made cameras that are large, difficult to carry, and often intended for the depiction of remote pictorial sites. I like to think that the work of experimental camera design, begun by 19th century pioneers of photography, is still in its infancy.”Glass presents a new set of photographs that toy with the transitory site of the Te Tuhi’s Billboards Project. The project presents a rare instance in which the artist will negotiate a digital printing process.

William Henry Fox Talbot

William Henry Fox Talbot was an English scientist, inventor, and photography pioneer who invented the salted paper and calotype processes, precursors to photographic processes of the later 19th and 20th centuries. His work in the 1840s on photomechanical reproduction led to the creation of the photoglyphic engraving process, the precursor to photogravure. He was the holder of a controversial patent that affected the early development of commercial photography in Britain. He was also a noted photographer who contributed to the development of photography as an artistic medium

Natasha Sanchez

Natasha Sanchez is a photographic artist and songwriter interested in, inspired by and continuously exploring the environment – particularly the environment we create for ourselves through thoughts, perspectives and images

I took inspiration from a these artists in ways which are different to their art practices but the ideas were different a like i feel like if I were to use the dark room I would have explored more of the cycle where I am in the prints ive tried to do that via photoshop but it doesnt have the same effect as these ones do

photo copying hack!

In my art work I used a hack where instead of the dark room I used the photocopier. The process of how to do it is:\

  • Add materials you are using onto the photocopier ( remember be gentle with it)
  • Set the paper you want + settings
  • When you are ready to go pull it down to half way keep it open and photo copy it
  • Once its done photocopying it will print an it will look like this
  • It can either be black and white or colour

I learnt this back at Waitakere College from my art teacher Miss Craig while in her Year 10 and L2 classes. Its can copy anything but things that arent transperant will come out as white blobs in the shapes depending on the brightness.

I the photos I produced I connected them and formed a line and at the moment I’m having doubts and thinking about changing the position of where it is.

Semester 1 Reflection for Me

This semester for me has been both amazing and the hardest few months I have gone through. the new skills I have learnt are very interesting as I didn’t think I would use these things in my art practice but I have. I have learnt a lot about me as a person when it comes to doing art and thats why for semester 2 I have set a few goals in core studio because I have been putting big amount of pressure on myself every time im coming to the end of a brief.

  1. Plan idea’s and stick with them
  2. communicate ideas and get others perspective’s
  3. believe in myself and complete the task to full ability
  4. HAVE FUN
  5. time management/plan my days

I think this is important for me because with my health interruption’s if I have a plan and something goes wrong I can come back to that plan and go from there or plan around that in a different way. I have grown into a bigger artist and I have expanded my learning through not only art practices, but how to process different situations when they come to me. my other goal for this next semester is to make something I am really proud of and has a important meaning and learn more art practices that I will one day be able to share with future artists

Animation

I struggled with this brief due to having too many ideas and didn’t know how I wanted to show it through animation. I am very confident with photoshop due to using it throughout high school and when making show posters. my first animation was cow prints just to get a refresh of how to make an animation on photoshop.

I got the hang of it and made an animation with me and Liam I started with this animation on the wall. I was trying all different ways of putting it on the wall I had some excellent ideas but every time I did it. I wouldn’t love it or something wasn’t right. I got frustrated about it then I and Antonia put it on the wall in the foyer to look at it and talk about it she gave me good ideas and I put my head into it and tried out a few ideas but I took it down because I didn’t feel right. I love Liam he has changed my life for the better and I wanted to show this intermit moment where it starts with 2 people covered in the rainbow colors then it shows more and more of the 2 bodies until it finally shows the 2 in this photo I wanted this art to make people think. who, where, what, when, and why are these 2 here, and what is their relationship.

The Picture on the blank canvas

I started a new art piece about women’s health because doctors just push it aside. we are valid our voices matter not just cis women but all women trans women, intersex women, non binary people with female genitals, women who don’t want children. I have been back and fourth in ideas but I felt like this was what I needed to do. I was pissed off about women (me) not being heard or taken seriously about my issue. I’ve been in and out of hospital back and fourth to multiple doctors for 3 and a half year and finally they are taking me seriously. I also Identify as Non Binary so the process to be listened to is harder. Women’s voices are important, they are valid, and with without Uterus’s we wouldn’t be alive. so why does it take 8 to 10 years or longer in New Zealand to be diagnosed with a medical condition for example endometriosis while we are waiting for a diagnosis it affecting women’s every day life and fertility. I wanted to add contraceptive pill packets and add more things about trans rights and health care but I went home.

It not my favourite art piece but the message is my favourite

Interventions

sitting on the stairs near Mission Bay listening to my music and a jetski went past which made waves I got drenched I moved my phone out of the way and my headphones fell into the water I thought it was really cool it was like the stairs were listening to the sound of the ocean. I played around with different concepts the ocean listening to the pole the ocean listening to the ground and rocks idk I just had a bit of fun it is very odd I wasn’t planning on doing this but this is what came to my mind when my headphone’s fell into the water (Don’t worry I brought them home and put them in the bin)

JUST A MINUTE

I didn’t know how I was going to approach this brief I had too many Ideas so Procrastinated and didn’t do them when I went out on Friday night to G.A.Y bar on K road that all of my drag family and community go to. I thought it would be a good opportunity to take some photos of my friend and I used some that were taken of me and Kerry my drag aunty. I didn’t plan so this is what I came up with. I knew I wanted to do something with drag I was going to do some Nan Goldin-inspired photo but my friend got a little too drunk to stand properly or do anything so I made do and got these photos.
